Everything is a lot better in summer, weโre able to spend some free time with our family and friends, and yes there is nothing better than a Sunday family dinner or lunch. It is the perfect opportunity for family members to get together, and let us not forget that we are eating the tastiest of foods.
Sunday dinners are kind of special. The family is gathered all together, and the kids are playing in the back yard. So, you want to gather your entire family? Cook a tasty dinner!
The Power of Family Dinner
Dr. Vanessa Lapointe is a parenting expert and a registered psychologist, and she explains that families that have meals together, also thrive together. Also she noted that meals have always been a time for families to gather together.
Is there anything better than gathering multiple generations in one place? We all get to talk to each other, and enjoy all the great stories about our grandparents.
Yes, your kids need to spend time with their friends, but they also need to get used to the magic of a Sunday dinner.
Anne Fishel, Ph.D., family therapist, and co-founder of The Family Dinner Project, Sunday dinners provide cognitive, physical and psychological benefits. Young kids improve their vocabulary, and older kids do well in school. Kids get to eat a lot of fruits and veggies, and these gatherings lower the rates of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse and behavioral issues.
Meals to Try
The atmosphere is really important. Give your kids the food they like as thatโs the only way to keep them interested in these gatherings. Ask them to help you cook the food, and experiment with your meals.
Kids are really picky when it comes to food, and maybe you should offer them some mini pizzas, barbeque chicken drumettes, meatballs and spaghetti, and chicken tenders.
Family dinners are the best, arenโt they? There is simply something magical about the cooking of the foods, setting the table for everybody and even in doing the dishes. Everyone is enjoying the warm weather, and your children will feel safe and everyone will be ready to discuss different topics.
But, remember that you must avoid scolding, arguments and heavy conversations. Family dinners are sacred, never forget that!
